What is a gantry system?
As the name suggests, the gantry system is similar in structure to a traditional gantry crane and is a mechanical device used to achieve planar or spatial motion. It achieves precise positioning and movement of workpieces in a plane or space through the combination of multiple linear axes. It is widely used in automated production lines, testing equipment, 3D printers and other fields.
Differences between XY and XYZ gantry systems
XY gantry system:
Motion plane: Mainly moves in a two-dimensional plane, that is, the X-axis and Y-axis directions.
Application scenarios: Suitable for applications such as plane positioning, cutting, and engraving.
XYZ gantry system:
Motion space: Moves in three-dimensional space, that is, the X-axis, Y-axis and Z-axis directions.
Application scenarios: Suitable for applications that require stereo positioning, stacking, pick and place, etc.
Common points between the two
Modular design: Both are composed of multiple linear axis modules, which can be flexibly combined according to needs.
High precision: High-precision positioning can be achieved through precision transmission components and control systems.
High rigidity: The structure is sturdy and can withstand large loads.
Programmability: Various complex motion trajectories can be realized through programming.
Selection considerations
Workspace: Determine the required stroke according to the workpiece size and range of motion.
Load capacity: Select the appropriate motor and transmission components according to the weight of the workpiece.
Accuracy requirements: Select the corresponding transmission method and control system according to the processing accuracy.
Speed requirements: Select the appropriate motor and drive according to the production rhythm.
Environmental requirements: Consider factors such as temperature, humidity, and cleanliness of the working environment.
Application examples
XY gantry system:
PCB drilling machine: Drill holes accurately on PCB boards.
Laser cutting machine: Cut materials.
CNC engraving machine: Carry out three-dimensional engraving.
XYZ gantry system:
3D printer: Stack materials layer by layer to build a three-dimensional model.
Automatic assembly line: Realize automatic pick-up and assembly of workpieces.
Warehousing logistics system: Carry out the handling and stacking of goods.
